At 11:57 am, the first alarm assignment of 17 - Stockdale, 16 - Roscoe, 33 - Charleroi, 47 - Fallowfield, & 22 - Lock #4, was dispatched for a Industrial Fire at the Mon River Industrial Complex (Formerly Allenport St 1730 (RESA) arrived on scene and reported a large working fire. Chief 17-1 arrived on scene, confirmed dispatch, and began assignments. It was discovered that millworkers were in the process of demolishing the structure and accidentally caught a large underground storage container of oil and sludge on fire, which in turn caught the structure on fire. Squad 17 arrived with 4 personnel and began an initial attack. Truck 33 & Chief 33 arrived on scene and sent manpower to the structure and assisted in laying hose lines. Engine 16 arrived on scene and located a hydrant. At that time, we were told by plant workers that the hydrant was un-operational, so Tanker 17 & Tanker 42 from Washington Twp was requested to scene. After using all of the water from both tankers, it was discovered that the hydrant was operational, so crews ran supply line to the hydrant and began feeding water to all lines operating. The bulk of the fire was extinguished, but the basement of the structure was difficult in extinguishing. Crews worked for approximately 4 hours putting the fire out. Thank you to Northbellevernon FireDepartment for covering our area while we were out on this large, challenging fire. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the firefighter from Washington Twp that was injured during this call during fire operations he fell about 20 feet into the basment area prompting a Mayday, crews worked as one team to extract the firefighter and into the care of EMS with what appeared to be minor injuries.. Great work to all of our mutual aid departments who assisted!
