Tickets for the show can be bought in advance or will be available at the door By TAYLOR BROWN tbrown@yourmvi.com Long-time Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Al Marcy has never“Bring your own everything, and people seem to like that. It has worked out well. Before, it seemed like if we made our own food, people wanted something else, so this allows them to enjoy what they like.” Guests can make their own food to bring, have a pizza delivered or set a grill up if they want. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 724-350-5192 or at the door. While live music has been a hit at the fire hall, it might be the last live concert there for awhile as costs associated with booking live full bands, as well as a busy schedule for the social hall, can make it difficult to plan. While Marcy is unsure if he will book another big band concert, his bi-annual $10 dances will continue with DJ Ralph Trilli supplying the tunes. Trilli will also perform Saturday between sets. Marcy said though music has changes over the years, it has been a well loved way to spend a Saturday in the Mon Valley and that is something he doesn’t think will ever change. The dances were held at the fire hall for decades, with the original dances for teens running from 1957 through 1964. At one point, the dances drew more than 1,000 people from across the country, and would piggy back on big-time performance at the former Twin Coaches Supper Club in Rostraver Township. “We have pictures all over the walls from some of the old dances, and all of the big shots who played here back in the hey day,” Marcy said. “Some of this stuff could be in a museum. All in this little town, some of the biggest names in music from across the country. We have had a lot of groups and a lot of people, I’ve never had a bad dance and I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years. “This social hall was built and the dances that had anywhere from 800 to 1,000 kids on a Saturday night paying 50 cents to get in. It’s our history.” All proceeds will help the fire department purchase equipment and keep members up to date on training. The fire department and social hall are located at 316 Railroad St., Stockdale PA 15483 |
